Following a groundswell of grassroots support from fans and industry alike, local animation team Blue Forest Collective are launching a crowd-funding campaign for their graphic novel project, KARIBA. And it drops on 1 March!
Originally conceived as a 2D-animated feature film, KARIBA first drew attention when the team, comprised of Daniel Clarke, Jac Hamman, Daniel Snaddon, Sarah Scrimgeour and Charl Collocott, released a teaser trailer for the property in April 2015. The video quickly racked up 261,000 views on Vimeo and made it to the front page of the popular user-curated website, Reddit. This viral success led to features in VARIETY, ANIMATION MAGAZINE and the respected industry website Cartoon Brew.
In lieu of developing a feature film script, the Blue Forest team, led by artist Daniel Clarke, has opted to raise funds for a graphic novel via a month-long campaign on the international crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. Due to launch on March 1, the campaign has received a welcome boost from Cape Town’s Triggerfish Animation (ZAMBEZIA, KHUMBA) who have pledged to match 50% of the funds raised.
